We are very pleased to present the final evaluation report into Growing Health Together funded by the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration Kent, Surrey and Sussex. The report describes how we are building a sustainable health community in East Surrey and presents in-depth data analysis, both quantitative and qualitative to demonstrate the central theme ‘the golden thread’ which underpins the ethos and the heart of Growing Health Together. Read the report.
To complement the evaluation report, we held a live webinar which featured both co-founders of GHT, Dr Gillian Orrow and Katherine Saunders (CEO of Alliance for Better Care), alongside Senior Researcher Dr Sarah Hotham and members of the community who are involved with GHT who discussed the approach and the impact of GHT.
We were absolutely honoured to be featured in the Doctor Magazine part of the British Medical Association, who wrote a comprehensive article on the health creating work that Dr Uzma Aziz, Dr Ivan Anderson and Dr Gillian Orrow are involved with and helped to bring these community led initiatives to their fulfilment. This is an absolute fantastic read and is a testament to the hard work of all our GP Leads demonstrating health can be built from the ground up.
We are absolutely delighted to be featured in the Financial Times. The article emphasises the importance of a bottom-up approach to health care, featuring quotes from Dr Orrow, Lord Nigel Crisp, Emmanuel Idajili (Creative Arts Youth project), Reigate and Banstead Borough Council Managing Director Mari Roberts-Wood and attendees of Men in Sheds. This article beautifully summarises the work we are doing whilst recognising how it perfectly aligns with the growing shifting outlook of preventing health conditions rather than treating them and even posing the question, can the work we are doing help save the NHS?
Medical journal the BMJ commissioned our director, Dr Gillian Orrow, to write this short article summarising the concept behind Growing Health Together Designing an ecological approach to health (bmj.com)
Early in the journey of Growing Health Together, the BMJ’s editor Fiona Godlee, and Cochrane Sustainable Healthcare’s Ray Moynihan recognised the potential of Growing Health Together as a model of sustainable healthcare. They interviewed our director, Gillian, to find out more: ‘Community healthcare leads the way’
NHS Confederation wrote this case report on Growing Health Together, succinctly summarising our work for a professional audience who may look to adopt similar approaches elsewhere.
This was part of a longer report written by Hashum Mahmood on Integration and innovation in action: population health | NHS Confederation
In addition to the promotion video, featured on our homepage, NHS Surrey Heartlands commissioned this short film for professional audiences, giving more detail into some of our initiatives.
NHS England » Next steps for integrating primary care: Fuller stocktake report
Commissioned by NHS CEO Amanda Pritchard and led by Professor Claire Fuller, CEO of NHS Surrey Heartlands, this report sets out future visions for primary care and we are proud that Growing Health Together features as a case study.
Growing Health Together co-founders Katherine and Gillian contributed to the shaping of this report, particularly in relation to work around prevention and communities, alongside colleagues from elsewhere in the U.K.
Growing Health Together was featured twice alongside luminary guests in this excellent webinar series on health creation: Building a healthy and health-creating society – SALUS to mark the launch of Lord Nigel Crisp’s game-changing book “Health is made at home, hospitals are for repairs”.
On the 9th November 2021 our colleagues were interviewed alongside Lord Nigel Crisp and Sir Sam Everington, and on 22nd October 2020 (before Growing Health Together was formally commissioned) alongside leaders in health creation Professor Donna Hall, Chair of New Local, Lord Victor Adebowale, Chair of NHS Confederation, and Merron Simpson, CEO of the Health Creation Alliance.
Our work is just one example of an emerging wider movement of health professionals working alongside the communities they serve, and with nature, in order to co-create healthier conditions for people and planet.
